Who is Vin Heuton, Edited by Kelly Ross: 8/20/07

______________

:) This is a long post but, an informative one too. ALL of us over here at JFRocks strongly encourage anyone that's new here to read this entire post and not skip around and skim it.

This post will help you to understand not only what Vin Heuton is all about, but also why we don't do cover song lessons here on JFRocks.com any longer. You'll also get a better picture of where we're coming from as a website. ........ Plus it's a pretty good read anyway. :) :) ;)

A lot of times folks that just find JFRocks.com make a lot of false assumptions about things. You kind of have to know our history a little to fully "get" what it is we do here.

JFRocks.com is a huge site, you really have to slow down and read a lot of the info, and take it all in if you're new here. We've really had quite a long and interesting history. Our new "Site Map" for newbies can be a big help. The link for that page is on the homepage of JFRocks.com, or you can click the link below.

http://www.jfrocks4.com/tech/welcome.html

This site, has been around since 2001 and has literally THOUSANDS of fans that come here on a daily basis from all over the world. JFRocks.com caters to those that wish to understand the music they're playing from a stylistic standpoint.

In Vin Heuton's case, it's for people that want to understand how Edward plays the guitar. We do that by actually applying the style to non VH songs, and using the style to write unique VH'y riffs and solo phrasing sections.

We hope people will innovate off of, and take our embellishments even further in order to develop their own identity and style as a player.

Every Vin Heuton lesson has an example song track, and a Video lesson. Most lessons have a Jam track that goes with it as well. It's important that you watch the video lessons and listen to what Jeff is teaching. A lot is explained on the videos, including why certain parts of the song track were written the way they were, and how to perform certain techniques properly etc...

The song tracks themselves are very well thought out and certain parts of them are done intentionally for lesson purposes. If you don't watch the video lessons you will miss the gist of pretty much everything lesson wise.

Reason being, we don't just show you a riff and move on. It's not about the riffs themselves. It's about explaining to you the mechanics, and in a lot of cases the theory behind what was played.

Learning a bunch of riffs and not understanding them doesn't do you any good, nor is that a "lesson". Learning a riff and understanding it so you could create a riff like it if you wanted to "is a lesson". And that's what we do here, and it's really what our website and our products are all about.

To understand more about why Vin Heuton was created and a little bit about the history of JFRocks.com, please keep reading. ;)

___________________________

JFRocks.com has seen many versions since its birth in July of 2001.

Those who are new to our site have no idea the road we've traveled and the ups and downs we've had with legalities.

Basically we have over the years changed the way we do things here at JFRocks based on the legal climate of things either online or offline in the music industry. Sometimes we did partial songs, sometimes we did full songs then we did no songs then mixed songs. It makes our heads spin over here just thinking about it. LOL ::)

4 500 count bottles of ADVIL later and oddly enough we are currently back to JFRocks version 1 which is and was Jeff's original vision for the site in the first place. LOL Kind of ironic to us over here if we actually stop and think about it. ;D

It's a lot of work to do this site and it's CDs. It stinks when we have to break it all down and keep starting over. >:(

These days we take a more stable direction, one that doesn't waste Jeff's time and energy by building something that the legal powers that be can destroy when ever they feel like it.

We're only using material that we own the rights to so that going forward into the future some lawyer or critic of our site with a bug up his or her you know what, or an artist who woke up in a bad mood one day can't come in here and decide Jeff can't teach you this, this and this, any longer.

With the legal troubles with Van Halen we've had and our huge amount of traffic, we're NOT flying under the internet radar anymore, we're one of the bigger blips on the darn radar screen. LOL Unfortunately that means we have to watch our step as, "Big Brother" knows who we are and checks in from time to time to make sure we're not trying to pull anything. :o

We simply want to teach guitar. We're fortunate that we have Jeff who's capable of writing awesome material based on styles of other players. If you want to pass up an opportunity to learn from someone like Jeff because he's not doing cover songs then that's your problem and your loss at the same time.

Now as for Vin Heuton pronounced: vin hootin

Our huge long time existing fan base already knows who and what Vin Heuton is. This is mostly for newbies who stumble on our site and are like, "what the heck is going on?" Vin What??

Let me start by saying that people either love us or hate us. Ultimately it comes down to what you think of Jeff's personality and Jeff's teaching and performance style. That being said, it doesn't matter if Jeff is teaching Mary had a little lamb.

The loyal fans of this site are fans of Jeff's teaching and teaching style. Those are the people who have been here for years and years and stayed with us through all the legal crap and those are the people we want around here and more of as a fan base for our website going forward into the future.

JFRocks is very unique. There is something very real about it. Jeff gives away more free stuff here as far as lessons and music go than most will sell you in their products. That's because we're not in it for the money. All DVD sales go to keep JFRocks.com online. NONE of it goes in Jeff's pocket!!!

We use our DVDs which are 3 to 6 hours long as a way of supporting the site, but the main focus is on the site. That's backward from the way most people do things. Many use a site to sell product and give you very little for free. They inject more advertising than lesson. We happen to think that stinks, and is phony, and that's why we don't run our site that way.

Jeff is very conversational and does all the lessons as though he is one on one with you in his living room just shooting the you know what about guitar. That works for some and by contrast some hate it. There is nothing we can do about that.

Just like some are fans of Eddie Van Halen and some think that he's a hack. Opinions vary, and there's nothing we, or you can do about it.

Jeff just wants to teach guitar and he can teach you how Ed plays or, Hendrix or, Randy Rhoads without using any of the various artist's own original right protected materials. Mostly because he himself understands how these people play and what techniques they use etc.

"We don't need no stinking cover songs." Nor do we need the cost to have a lawyer on retainer to deal with Van Halen or some other band or artist on this issue or that issue as they come up. Screw that.! We have better things to do with our time and money.

As far as Van Halen goes we feel it's more important that you understand how Eddie plays and inject some of yourself into it rather than regurgitate cover songs of Van Halen. Also if you understand how a player like Ed plays, then you will not only be better at playing his material but you will also be able to figure it out much more easily as well.

Some disagree with that and that's fine, this is all Jeff's outlook and approach. If you disagree with his approach OR... all you want to do is learn Van Halen songs and not how to play like Eddie and understand the style and the approach to the guitar that he takes, then sadly JFRocks and Vin Heuton for that matter are probably not for you, and that's cool, we're extremely sorry we can't be of any help to you in your guitar studies.

We can't please everyone, and we know that. We only try to please the true fans of this site the best we can and bring you the best guitar lessons legally possible. ;)

Now, for those of you who want to get up to speed on what exactly Vin Heuton is and what Vin Heuton is all about please continue reading.

____________________

Vin Heuton is a Van Halen "like" band name that Jeff and Chris created back in August of 2005 when VH told us that we could no longer use their name for fear people would confuse us with them or think we were affiliated with them.

Vin Heuton is a band that writes material very similar to Van halen but doesn't use any of Van Halen's actual riffs or solos but rather only techniques and style.

Vin Heuton is for Guitar instructional purposes only. We are not living out some silly Van Halen fantasy. We are simply using the V H guitar style as a learning tool to get people excited about playing guitar.

It should be noted that Jeff writes all the material for this site, its CDs, and its DVDs. Jeff is the sole copyright owner of said material. Reproduction of any kind, a.k.a. stealing of any kind is strictly prohibited and will result in legal action being taken by us if need be.

We will protect JFRocks.com and its sister sites at all costs. The website is very important to all of us over here, we work very hard to make this all happen on a weekly basis. There's a lot of behind the scenes stuff that you the visitor never have to see or deal with.

Our loyal fans are cool though and we're not really that worried about copyright violations or any of that garbage but ownership has to be stated for the record.

In closing, please remember that as with everything we do here at JFRocks.com this Vin Heuton stuff is all in good fun. We don't take ourselves too seriously over here. You don't see a bunch of silly picture of Jeff in silly poses with his guitar.

This site is about teaching, and teaching is the only thing we take very seriously here. We just try to make it fun by giving you some cool riffs and songs to work on, and a unique approach paired with what we feel is "useful" information that you can use in real world jam situations.

Jeff in no way is trying to mock Eddie, but rather give people ideas on how to innovate off of what Ed did and make it your own. Our only goal with JFRocks is to make you a better guitar player.

We hope everyone enjoys Vin Heuton and gets a lot out of it.

Over time the Vin Heuton and Beyond VH catalog will become huge, and quite vast.. and because we own all the rights to its content, we will never have to tear it down and start over for quote, unquote "legal reasons".

I'm certain our long time fans appreciate that as they've seen this site torn down and rebuilt more times than any of us can count on 2 hands. Each time for some legal B.S. reason.

We really hope everyone enjoys our sites and our popular guitar lesson DVD and CD ROM series' and gets a lot out of it all.

We work very hard on this site and our products. We do our best to provide you with what we and a lot of others think are some of the best, and most unique online guitar lessons, and lesson products anywhere. (emphasis on unique)

Jeff's not one to conform to what everyone else is doing. That trait is part of why this site is a one of a kind. :)
